University Libraries Lead Student Ambassador Lesly Silva has been recognized as the Student Employee of the Year at the Student Employment Appreciation Reception on April 16, 2026.
Sponsored by Texas State Career Services, the annual event celebrates student employees for their hard work and the vital role they play in helping campus departments operate effectively and support the broader Texas State community. Award recipients are selected by a committee based on nominations submitted by supervisors across campus.
“Lesly has been with our ambassador program since its creation in Spring 2024," said her supervisor, University Libraries Event Specialist Ashlynne Gooch. "She has been invaluable in providing time, energy and ideas to further refine work processes, set office norms and be a positive role model to students.”

In her role, Silva, a digital media innovation senior, leads a team of six student ambassadors and oversees a wide range of responsibilities. Her work includes scheduling and conducting library tours, contributing to workshops, tabling and events, assisting with New Student Orientation (NSO), creating student schedules, addressing noise concerns and supporting the upkeep of library spaces. She also maintains internal accountability systems, organizes team communications and contributes during weekly meetings.
According to Gooch, Silva has also made a meaningful impact on the student experience. Through her work with US1100 classes, she has helped increase awareness of library resources among new students while fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment at campus events.

“Lesly has been an exceptional and highly valued member of the team,” Gooch said. “I am confident she will continue to excel and make meaningful contributions in the future.”
Reflecting on receiving the award, Silva shared her appreciation for her team and the support system that contributed to her growth.
“I feel very grateful and so loved by my team,” Silva said. “Hearing them cheering me on as I was called to receive the award made the moment incredible. I love how much I have grown over the years and the people around me, especially my supervisor, Ashlynne Gooch—have helped me grow.”

As she prepares to graduate in Fall 2026, Silva encourages students interested in working at the library to consider the opportunity.
“The library is such a great place to work. I have gotten to know a lot of people here and the members are so thoughtful and want you to excel in your career. The library is a hub of resources, and you don’t realize how supportive people are until you’ve experienced it in the library.”
