2026 TXST Open Datathon registration now open!

TXST Open Datathon

3rd Annual Competition now includes students from the Round Rock campus

Hey Bobcats! In our data-driven world, people who know how to find and use open data when looking for solutions to real-world problems will have a definite advantage. Back by popular demand, we are giving students the opportunity to gain experience doing exactly that through our third-annual TXST Open Datathon competition. The competition is part of a weeklong celebration of International Love Data Week, Feb. 6-13. Registration for the datathon competition is now open to undergraduate and graduate students from both the San Marcos and Round Rock campuses.

University Libraries celebrates Love Data Week by offering a series of workshops covering data-related topics as well as the datathon competition.

Workshop topics for this year include:

  • Introduction to TXST Dataverse Repositories
  • Good Practices in Managing Data on Spreadsheets
  • Connecting with TXST Data (TXST Staff Only)
  • Data-Driven Healthcare Decision Making
  • Do's and Don'ts for Research Posters

Each year, participation has grown for these events. So, be sure to check them out!

The first of two online Q&A sessions about the TXST Open Datathon will be held Friday, Jan. 23 from noon to 1 p.m. The official kickoff of the event begins on Feb. 6, 2-5 p.m. at the orientation event. Students will research and prepare their poster presentation which they will give at the Datathon Judging and Closing Ceremony on Feb. 13. Awards are presented to students or student teams finishing in the top three places in graduate and undergraduate divisions of the datathon.
