Collections - Alkek Library

Alkek Library's General Collection offers books to support the educational programs and curriculum at the Main Campus. It spans over the 5th and 6th floors of the library building.

This collection of of human anatomy and animal models provides a hands-on learning experience outside the classroom. A list of available models can be browsed in our library catalog.

The Juvenile Collection offers a wide selection of award-winning books covering genres like non-fiction, fiction, poetry, graphic novel, and picture book titles. Also included is a set of Big Books.

Alkek Library has a selection of DVDs that include popular movies, classic films, documentaries, tv shows, and educational materials. Items can be checked out by faculty, staff, and students. The DVD collection is on the 3rd floor and can be browsed in our library catalog. Also available is a collection of Compact Discs that can be browsed online and are available for checkout.

The Graphic Novels Collection has graphic novels, series, large format graphic novels, manga. The collection includes well known graphic novel authors such as Harvey Pekar, Robert Crumb, Alan Moore, Chris Ware, Will Eisner, and titles like Batman and historical graphic novels as well. Manga titles like, Attack on Titan, Cowboy Bebop, and Naruto, are also part of the collection.

A collection of testing instruments, simulation sets, and other multi-piece resources used in various academic fields. Located in the library's Closed Collection these kits must be requested through the library catalog. Some kits are restricted, needing faculty approval to check out.

Named for the former Texas State Associate Librarian, the Betty D. Phillips Popular Reading Collection contains recent best sellers and current popular fiction and non-fiction titles. Located on the 3rd floor and shelved by call number. Browse the collection in the Library Catalog.

Alkek Library displays titles newly added to the collection in the New Books Display. The content changes on a weekly basis as we work to add new material in support of the university curriculum. Browse display material in the Library Catalog.

The Zine Collection can be browed on the 3rd floor of Alkek Library. The original pieces are stored in Special Collections, Rm. 204 of Alkek Library. Material can be browsed online in our Library Catalog and is available for checkout request.

The Game Collection on the 3rd floor was set up in support of coursework related to Education, Social Work, and Counseling. It also includes a few popular games. All are available for checkout and can be renewed as well.

The Toy Collection is housed on the 3rd floor. All material can be checked out and renewed if needed. The collection is comprised of material appropriate for sand tray/play therapy and in support of coursework in Education, Social Work, and Counseling.

The Alkek Library is a selective depository with a variety of federal and state documents. Alkek's Government Information collection includes approximately 1.4 million Federal and Texas documents, with a large collection of topographic maps. Government Documents are excellent primary resources for researchers. Government documents from the federal government are located on the 3rd floor and at the Archives and Research Center.
