The Texas State University Libraries is a congressionally designated depository for U.S. Government documents. The government documents collection is available to Texas State University researchers, as well as the local community, as guaranteed by public law (Title 44 United States Code).
The University Libraries is a selective depository with a variety of federal and state documents. The Government Information collection includes approximately 1.4 million Federal and Texas documents, with a large collection of topographic maps. Government Documents are excellent primary resources for researchers.
Government documents from the federal government are located in the Alkek Library on the third floor, in the fourth floor compact shelving, and at the Archives and Research Center (ARC). Documents on the fourth floor are in the process of being moved to the ARC.

Map printing is provided by the Alkek Print Shop on the first floor of Alkek.
Alkek One Print Shop provides printing of USGS Topographic Maps for Texas State University students, faculty, and staff. Map requests are filled within 24 hours. Assistance is also available for locating maps in hard copy. Several series of maps are housed in the collection.
University Libraries at Texas State University offers free access to materials obtained through the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP), which is administered by the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO). Free public access to United States government documents in a federal depository library is guaranteed by law (44 USC §1911).
Depository materials circulate in accordance with University Libraries’ Borrowing Policy. Community members may check out circulating depository material with a TexShare card or Community Borrowers card. Any patron may view depository library material within the Alkek library. Patrons may use photocopiers to copy material for a per-page fee. Patrons may also scan the materials for free using KIC machines located throughout the library.
Alkek Library has two public workstations on the main (2nd) floor of the library. These public workstation computers provide access to all .gov and .mil websites. These computers also provide access to library databases. Visitors may use the computers to view, download, and print government information. According to Texas State University Libraries’ policy, public patrons are charged a per-page fee for printing.
Research assistance for public users of FDLP information is equal to such services offered to other users and for other information.
