If the University Libraries (Alkek, RRC, ARC) or the Schneider Music Library do not have the item you need readily available, Interlibrary Loan (ILL) can borrow a copy or request an article/chapter scan from another library. This is a free service available to current Texas State students, faculty, and staff.
Typical turnaround time for books is 1-2 weeks. Turnaround time for articles varies but most articles are delivered within 24-48 hours.
The following materials can be difficult/slow to obtain via interlibrary loan but we will attempt to obtain them:
- Dissertations and theses
- Materials not held by U.S. libraries
- DVDs, CDs, microform, other media
- Recently published items and current bestsellers
Round Rock Campus (RRC)

If you selected electronic delivery in your ILLiad account, articles are typically sent to your ILLiad account. Log into ILLiad and retrieve them online within your ILLiad account. However, not all lending libraries support electronic delivery. Therefore electronic delivery is not guaranteed.
Interlibrary loan materials are meant for short-term use only.
Due dates for interlibrary loan materials vary and are assigned by the lending library. Renewals may or may not be allowed. Please pay attention to the due dates and request renewal before the materials are due back.
Renewals are at the discretion of the lending library.
Eligible interlibrary loan materials may be renewed for 2+ weeks from the original due date, if the owning institution approves the renewal. Multiple renewals are not typically allowed, so do plan to make other arrangements for any material you need long-term.
Renewals can be requested in your ILLiad account under View -- Checked Out Items. Click on the transaction number. If the item is eligible for renewal, you'll see a renewal request option.
A notice is sent to patrons with overdue ILL material. Please return the items as soon as possible, so that we won't be billed by the owning library.
If the lending library sends us an invoice, the patron is responsible for all charges assessed by the lending library.
Having excessive incidences of overdue items will result in the permanent revocation of Interlibrary Loan privileges.
Because books in the Wittliff Collections do not check out, you may request copies from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan.
Unfortunately, we cannot request undergraduate or introductory level textbooks from other libraries. Such textbooks are usually on reserve or other restricted collections and do not circulate to other libraries.
Interlibrary Loan and ARC staff may scan journal articles or book chapters from the University Libraries' print collections and deliver them as PDF files to your ILLiad account. There is no charge. Just submit your request as you would an interlibrary loan request. you will be notified via email when your items are available electronically. Delivery time will be approximately 24-48 hours.
